Stained Glass Restoration
Pacific Heights Mansion
San Francisco, CA
This restoration included removing each panel from its frame structure, completely disassembling, cleaning, and replacing glass where necessary due to cracks. Molds were made to rebuild all of the panels, which were curved three dimensionally, so that the glass could then be leaded back together with a steel heart lead throughout. Steel reinforcing bars were curved and soldered directly to the panel and then reinstalled into the existing steel frame. This project was one of Hogan’s most challenging assignments. The dome was constructed before 1906 and survived the earthquake intact. Restoration was completed in 1993.
